Welcome to 2026/2027 Green Schools. After achieving our 1st Flag for Litter & Waste we are now focusing on the next flag for Water. The Green Schools mission is to protext plan Earth and Lurga wants to be involved in this.
The Committee was established Ms Hogan, Maureen and their committee for the next 2 years:- Abbie, Sam, Caitlin, Rebeca, Louis, Maria, Tom K, Leigh, Sophie, Amelia M, Aidan.
Our Slogan is:-
Water is our way to gain, don’t pour it down the drain. Save water in Lurga School, that is our golden rule
For the month of October/November we are going to focus on doing our Environmental Review – a checklist where we ask staff and students relevant questions regarding water in Lurga NS. The answers to this will then feed into our Action Plan.
We are also working on our posters and Green Code and will have these displayed proudly on our notice board and social media before Christmas.
2025 – 2026
We are so thankful to Ms O’Shea, Ms Hogan and Maureen and their amazing committee of Kyle, Niamh, Kevin, Siobhán, Andrew, Emma & Méabh & Jessica,. They are busy planning the continuing steps towards their Green Flag Application which is to be submitted by 3rd December. Litter Picking & Waste free Wednesdays continue with audits being taken on waste collected. We urge all pupils to choose reusable water bottles over single use plastic.
As part of our Green Flag Application, we are taking part in a Battery Collection Campaign. We welcome any batteries dropped into Lurga NS.
Litter & Waste is the first theme of the Green-Schools programme. The theme is a great starting point for encouraging a sense of personal pride and responsibility in tackling two visible issues in schools and communities
